Job Summary The Department of Music seeks a tenure‑track faculty position to serve as Principal Tubist with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra beginning August 1, 2026.
The position is full‑time and benefits‑eligible.
The selected candidate will teach courses, maintain scholarly productivity, and participate in service at departmental, college, and university levels.

Links to two applied tuba or euphonium lesson samples.
Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate and graduate applied Tuba and Euphonium for majors and minors.
Recruit and maintain an active Tuba and Euphonium studio.
Work with brass chamber ensembles and studio classes.
Perform with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra as Principal Tuba.
Maintain an active regional, national, and international performing presence.
Teach in additional areas of Music (theory, history, etc.) or general education courses as needed.
Additional teaching duties may be expected based on qualifications and departmental needs.
Contribute to the department, university, and community through service.
Typical Allocation of Duties
Teaching and scholarship
– 80%
Service
– 20%
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. or DMA in Tuba or Euphonium by appointment date.
Experience teaching college‑level applied Tuba and Euphonium.
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications
Record demonstrating a strong commitment to recruiting.
Record of effective teaching appropriate to the applicant’s career stage.
Record of success as a professional performer.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.
Knowledge of online/hybrid teaching and Learning Management Systems.
