Position Overview This position is accountable for learning to compile large‑scale topographic and multi‑layered data maps by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geographic information provided by geodetic surveys, aerial photographs, and satellite data. This position researches, studies, and prepares maps and other spatial data in digital or graphic form for use in the location and design of transportation projects completed by other district/bureau personnel.

Essential Functions Operates a digital photogrammetric workstation in development of all mapping tasks. Reviews information about specific features of the earth, using aerial photography and other digital remote‑sensing techniques. Compiles data required for entry‑level mapping assignments. Examines and analyzes data from ground surveys, reports, aerial photographs, and satellite images in order to prepare topographic maps, orthophotos, digital elevation or digital terrain models, or aerial‑photograph mosaics. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Completion of two years of college in pre‑engineering, civil‑engineering technology, or related science curriculum and successful completion of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) administered stereo 3‑D eye test; OR 24 months of technical experience in engineering, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geomatics, cartography, computer aided design and drafting (CADD) or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) fields and successful completion of the IDOT administered stereo 3‑D eye test.

Preferred Qualifications Ability to obtain, evaluate, and interpret spatial and non‑spatial data. Working knowledge of the practices and principles of photogrammetry using a variety of techniques to map the surface of the earth.
