Neighborhood Resource Center
Food & Outreach Manager
Neighborhood Resource Center, Richmond, Virginia, United States, 23214
Location:
Richmond, Virginia
Job Type:
Full time, salaried‑exempt
Application Deadline:
Monday, November 17, 2025
About the job We are looking for a resourceful, detail‑oriented Food & Outreach Manager to join our team at the Neighborhood Resource Center. The ideal candidate will be able to design or follow our recipes, prepare meals from scratch, follow sanitation and safety standards, and deliver meals to our youth meals program sites in a Neighborhood Resource Center vehicle. They will be committed to getting results in a moderate‑paced environment and able to handle several responsibilities at once. This Food and Outreach Program Manager’s focus beyond day‑to‑day food preparation is to grow the program, expanding the number of youth meals that we serve daily.
This is an in‑person position in an area with inadequate public transit, so consistent access to a personal vehicle is required. The position is funded through pass‑through federal dollars, so a background check is required and candidates with criminal convictions will not be considered. The schedule is Monday through Friday usually 10 AM to 6 PM, with occasional evenings and Saturdays for special events.
Role and responsibilities The Food and Outreach Program Manager manages, operates, and ensures compliance with two USDA‑sponsored food programs: the Child and Adult Food Care Program (CACFP) and the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Responsibilities include designing the monthly menu, completing inventory, ordering supplies, cooking, and delivering fresh, hot meals from our commercial kitchen to sites in Greater Fulton and East Henrico. The manager trains site partners and NRC staff on compliance with USDA program requirements, oversees our food pantry program, and administers child nutrition programs by submitting applications and claims to the Virginia Department of Education. They also identify new partners to increase daily meal counts, lead monthly cooking classes and nutrition education with youth, train and manage apprentices, backup cooks, and volunteers, and handle related administrative tasks.
About you You have experience cooking in a commercial kitchen and managing staff, are entrepreneurial and resourceful, and consistently overcome challenges to creatively solve problems. You pay attention to detail and have a track record of improving operations. You are trustworthy, practice interdependence, and delegate work with sustainability in mind. You possess intermediate level technology skills with Google Workspace, a valid Virginia Driver’s License, a clean driving record, and a ServSafe Manager certification or the ability to pass the exam at our cost within the first week of employment. Experience with USDA program compliance and knowledge of commercial kitchen health code regulations is required.
We offer $57,000 annually
100% employer‑premium paid health insurance (including dental, medical, and vision), two weeks of PTO each year, nine paid holidays, additional paid staff wellness days, and annual employer‑paid professional development opportunities.
How to apply We’d love to hear from you if you are a resourceful, detail‑oriented person who excels at sustaining and increasing food access for lower‑income families in food‑desert areas. Please submit your resume detailing your qualifications and how you can contribute to our team’s success. Visit our posting on Indeed to apply.
About the application process A first‑round half‑hour interview will be held via Google Meet. Second‑round interviews will be in person at the Neighborhood Resource Center. All applications are reviewed by a human, not AI.
