NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS 3 - UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS
Location: Newport News, VA. Salary range: $74,001.00 - $95,000.00 (typical). Position type: Full‑time, 1st shift.
Role Overview Responsible for developing, testing, and deploying unified communications applications and services, including VoIP, web conferencing, presence, instant messaging, and video communication systems. Provide support for telephone programming, VoIP endpoints, vulnerability remediation, and other daily tasks. Utilize software and hardware tools to investigate moderate‑to‑complex problems affecting UC applications and performance. Manage trouble tickets, inventory of telecommunications equipment, and network/application analysis for short‑ and long‑range planning. Enforce policies and procedures for VoIP, collaboration, and video, propose solutions, and maintain documentation.
Responsibilities
Develop, test, and deploy unified communications applications and services.
Provide telephone programming support, dial plans, route patterns, and VoIP endpoints.
Manage application and service configurations, vulnerability remediation, and incident resolution.
Utilize diagnostic tools to identify and resolve moderate‑to‑complex UC problems.
Complete trouble tickets and requests for customer VoIP and collaboration services.
Maintain inventory of telecommunications equipment.
Monitor networks and applications, produce analysis for planning.
Enforce policies and procedures, propose improvements, and document configurations.
Provide rotational on‑call support and work outside normal hours as required.
Qualifications Must Have
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
Equivalent to Bachelor's Degree for Information Technology (see options).
Equivalent Options
NNS Apprentice School graduate
Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
Associate’s Degree or other 2‑year program + 2 years exempt or 4 years non‑exempt experience
Military Paygrade E-5 or above
High School/GED + 4 years relevant manufacturing/shipbuilding/military experience or 8 years non‑exempt experience
Relevant professional certification substituting a Bachelor’s Degree.
Nice to Have
Strong understanding of infrastructure platforms (networks, servers, storage) related to Unified Communications
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching protocols, DNS, and DHCP
Experience managing virtual machines on WINDOWS, UNIX, and LINUX
Programming and scripting experience in Windows Scripting, PowerShell, Splunk Query Language, and SQL.
