Head Start Assistant Teacher / Teacher
Join Catholic Charities of Baltimore Head Start as a Head Start Assistant Teacher or Teacher for the upcoming fall 2025-2026 school year. All locations in the Baltimore City area.
Pay & Sign‑On Bonus Pay rate: $16.50 - $32.63 an hour, depending on education and position level.
Sign‑On Bonus: $1,000 for part‑time, $2,000 for full‑time (external candidates only).
Responsibilities As a Teacher: manage the classroom, create a stimulating environment, and foster growth, well‑being, and development of children. Build positive, productive relationships with families by engaging in their strengths.
As an Assistant Teacher: assist the Teacher in building on child and family strengths, supporting school readiness goals, managing the classroom, maintaining a safe environment, advancing social, physical and intellectual competence through intentional learning experiences, and establishing positive relationships with families.
Qualifications Teacher I (508000)
– Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent coursework plus internship or one year of experience teaching preschool age children.
Teacher II (531000)
– Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children, or Teach For America admission with relevant training and ongoing professional development.
Teacher III (532000)
– Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children.
Assistant Teacher I
– High School Diploma/GED, 90‑hour ECE certification or eligible equivalency, and one year of experience working with preschoolers; requires completion of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or associate degree.
Assistant Teacher II
– Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and 9‑hour MSDE approved communications class, or 90‑hour ECE certification and 30 ECE college credits; must be on a CDA completion plan.
Assistant Teacher III
– AA or higher degree with approved ECE coursework, or teaching certificate for grades Nursery‑3 (K‑8); must obtain a Maryland State Department of Education credential within six months.
Classroom Aide (501000)
– High School Diploma/GED.
All teachers and assistant teachers must begin the application for a Maryland State Department of Education credential within six months of employment and maintain it thereafter.
