The Department of Economics, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks three Post Doctoral Scholars to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. With 38 departments, 20+ world‑class research centers, and more than 2,000 faculty and staff members, students have the unique opportunity to study with the best artists, scholars, and scientists in their field.

The Post Doctoral Scholar will study the economics of science, innovation, and education, including student debt and outcomes, interdisciplinarity, the STEM workforce and careers, and the effects of investments in research on local economies. The postdoc will support and conduct detailed complex scientific studies, functioning as a subject expert on one or more phases of the project(s).

Responsibilities include:

Preparing and/or presenting seminars, talks or lectures for dissemination of knowledge, particularly the results of research undertaken;

Assisting in the management of one or more phases of the research effort;

Assisting in the selection of key research personnel, including undergraduate and graduate students, to work on project(s); working with and coordinating collaborating research staff, providing input on methods and procedures necessary to achieve desired goals;

Advising undergraduate and graduate students in the analysis and interpretation of research data;

Extracting, analyzing and presenting research data and coordinating analysis of findings, preparing detailed summaries for submission to sponsoring agencies;

Developing research designs and procedures for data analysis on the project(s);

Writing, editing and/or approving progress reports, technical reports and journal articles; editing grant proposals and drafting IRB documents for submission; assisting in the establishment of working relationships with potential sponsors and in the submission of detailed research proposals to governmental and private agencies.

The Department of Economics seeks to fill three Postdoctoral Scholar positions in the following areas:

Economics of Science, Innovation, and Education

Labor, STEM Education, and Household Finance

Education, Innovation, and Economic Policy

Initial appointments will begin between Autumn Semester 2025 and Autumn Semester 2026. Each appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and available funding. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning mid‑November.

Required Qualifications

Hold a doctoral degree in economics, public policy and management, sociology, finance, public health, or computer/library/information sciences by the start of employment;

Have experience in social science research and demonstrate expertise or strong interest in one or more of the following areas: the economics of science and innovation, education, consumer or household finance, urban and regional economics, labor economics, or spatial econometrics.

Desired Qualifications

Strong analytical skills and experience working with complex data sets;

Evidence of high‑quality research in the fields listed above;

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary research environment.
