Montana State University welcomes applications for the position of Dean of the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering (NACOE). The Dean will lead the college’s mission of teaching, research, and service while addressing the challenges of the 21st‑century engineering education.

College Overview The Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering at Montana State University serves more than 3,350 students in accredited undergraduate and graduate programs. It is renowned for research in cybersecurity, energy, water, infrastructure, materials, data science, advanced manufacturing, and sustainable systems, and for fostering strong industry and national laboratory partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide effective management, administration, and leadership for the college, ensuring smooth operations across departments and affiliated offices.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, enhancing faculty‑student engagement, streamlining curriculum, and supporting research enterprise growth.
Advocate for interdisciplinary collaborations both internal and external, developing initiatives that benefit stakeholders.
Ensure positive outcomes for program and institutional accreditation, meeting standards set by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
Improve student retention and grow enrollment, with a particular emphasis on graduate student enrollment.
Represent NACOE and MSU, communicating the college’s mission and programs to diverse constituencies.
Secure external funding, identifying grants and donors to support college initiatives and developing fundraising strategies in partnership with university leadership.
Nurture faculty scholarship, teaching, and service, supporting external funding pursuits, professional development, and shared governance.
Contribute to university mission through participation on academic leadership teams and key campus committees.
Build a bright future for NACOE, exemplifying ethical, compassionate, and visionary leadership.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
Exemplary record of research/scholarship, teaching, and service to the university and broader communities.
Qualified for tenure at the rank of full professor within the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Broad-based record of administrative and scholarly experience in a research university, with supervisory experience and budget management.
Strong communication skills in writing, speaking, and listening.
Ability to foster teaching, research, scholarship, service, and professional development of faculty.
Experience with faculty development, performance assessments, and promotion/tenure evaluation.
Demonstrated understanding and support of a land‑grant university mission.
Experience in fiscal management and shared governance.
Commitment to collaborative leadership and engagement with university vision.
Evidence of fundraising and external resource development.
