Upwing Energy
Upwing Energy is seeking an experienced and driven Project Engineer with a strong background in high-speed turbomachinery, mechanical design and instrumentation in oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years experience in managing moderately sized projects with the oil and gas majors. They will exhibit a strong understanding of API, ISO, IEC and ASME Standards, piping systems, valves and instrumentation. The ability to communicate goals and complex technical details to a large and varied set of stakeholders is critical to success in this role.
The Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the planning and successful execution of projects related to gas compression systems, pipelines, instrumentation, and civil engineering work, ensuring all deliverables meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. The project engineer is also responsible for an in-budget on-schedule delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the full lifecycle of upstream gas compressor projects—from planning and detailed engineering through execution and closeout—covering pipelines, valves, flow meters, and control instrumentation. Develop and manage project scope, schedule, budget, logistics, and resource allocation to ensure delivery of defined objectives.
Document and communicate technical and non-technical requirements to all stakeholders in a SMART framework. Ensure all work complies with local and international standards, SOW, and regulatory requirements. Review and approve P&IDs, isometrics, civil drawings, and specifications.
Oversee installation, calibration, and integration of piping, valves, sensors, and flow meters into pipeline and compression systems. Ensure seamless connection to SCADA systems and collaboration with I&C engineers for data acquisition, safeguarding, and control logic.
Manage associated civil engineering activities such as foundations, structural supports, and trenching. Supervise piping and mechanical installations to ensure technical quality, constructability, and adherence to design.
Lead QA/QC programs across fabrication, sourcing, and installation phases. Conduct audits, inspections, and tests to verify compliance with quality standards, material specifications, and performance before commissioning.
Monitor budgets and schedules, enforce cost control measures, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies. Provide regular project performance reports and updates to management and stakeholders.
Direct multidisciplinary teams—including civil, piping, and instrumentation engineers—and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Mentor and develop staff to enhance team capability and performance.
Ensure full compliance with HSE standards and promote a proactive safety culture through audits, training, and enforcement of all safety protocols. Maintain effective communication and decision-making even when working independently or remotely. Coordinate project activities through remote collaboration tools and maintain seamless communication with team members, contractors, and stakeholders.
Skills, Experience, Education, and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related engineering field.
PMP certification or equivalent preferred. Minimum 2 years of project management experience in turbomachinery, piping, instrumentation, and civil works for upstream/midstream gas installations, including delivery or service contracts with major oil and gas operators.
Strong background in installation, integration, and QA/QC of rotating equipment, piping systems, valves, sensors, and civil foundations.
Skilled in interpreting P&IDs, isometrics, and civil drawings, and familiar with ISO, API, IEC, NACE, and ASME standards.
Proficient in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) with demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, contractors, vendors, and internal teams across all project phases.
Thorough understanding of oil and gas sector regulations and standards, ensuring adherence to HSE, quality, and performance requirements.
Strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with experience managing multicultural, multidisciplinary teams and engaging diverse stakeholders.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
Able to work independently in fast-paced environments, managing multiple priorities while maintaining quality, safety, and accountability.
Intangibles Sought
Strong leadership, organizational, and team-building skills.
Excellent communication skills — able to engage with clients, executives, and technical teams.
Commercial acumen and ability to align technical execution with business goals.
Proficiency in project management tools and processes.
Structured and disciplined problem-solver with high attention to detail.
Comfortable with ambiguity and fast-paced development environments.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Driven to ensure that issues are resolved permanently and systematically.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
The role allows for remote work when appropriate, but the candidate must maintain a strong presence on-site coupled with frequent site visits to upstream/midstream gas installations, vendors and clients, both domestically and internationally.
Must be comfortable working in a high-paced environment with field operations in challenging conditions.
