POSITION: Assistant Coach, Indoor Track – HS Varsity (Winter)
LOCATION: Manassas Park High School
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary/Hours:
Pay: Stipend of $2800.00
Hours: To be set in conjunction with the Varsity Coach and the Athletic Director
Job Summary
The Assistant Coach supports the Indoor Track Varsity program by carrying out the goals and objectives established by the Head Coach. This position is responsible for assisting with instruction in individual and team fundamentals, strategies, and conditioning, helping student‑athletes develop the skills necessary for both personal growth and team success. The Assistant Coach works under the direction of the Head Coach and reports to the Head Coach and Director of Student Athletics and Activities.
Requisite Education And Skills
MPCS staff preferred.
Knowledge and background in track and field.
Previous coaching or athletic experience in track and field is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with student‑athletes, parents, and staff.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties
Support the Head Coach in carrying out the objectives of the indoor track program.
Assist in organizing and conducting practices to build individual skills, physical conditioning, and team strategies.
Provide instruction and feedback to athletes on proper techniques, event preparation, and performance improvement.
Help supervise athletes during practices, competitions, and team activities to ensure safety and appropriate conduct.
Encourage student participation and promote a positive team culture based on respect, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Assist with maintaining equipment, facilities, and records related to the track program.
Collaborate with the Head Coach to ensure program alignment with school and VHSL (Virginia High School League) regulations.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic and Activities Director.
Physical Requirements Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
