Tenure-Track Faculty Position
Department of Music, Rowan University The Department of Music at Rowan University seeks a tenure-track faculty member to lead the university’s orchestral program, with an appointment to begin September 1, 2026. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an active, highly visible creative activity based in conducting, teach at the undergraduate level, and contribute to service endeavors in the Department, College, and University. Opportunities for collaboration exist within the Department, College, and the George Family Center for Arts and Healing. We anticipate hiring at the Assistant Professor level, but outstanding candidates may be considered at the Associate or Full Professor levels.
Responsibilities
Conduct the University Orchestra and provide a vision for the future of Rowan University’s orchestral program.
Recruit outstanding students and maintain active and collaborative relationships with public schools in the region.
Teach instrumental conducting and courses that match the candidate’s qualifications, background, and interests.
Demonstrate conducting abilities at the highest artistic standard; a successful track record as an orchestra director; comprehensive knowledge of standard and contemporary orchestral repertoire; proven rehearsal techniques; and excellent pedagogical skills.
Show promise for significant scholarly/creative achievement and have an ongoing commitment to advancing the profession, both as a teacher and guest conductor outside of Rowan University.
Qualifications
A master’s degree in music is required; a doctorate and/or at least three years of teaching or equivalent experience is preferred.
Administrative skills and an ability to contribute to department and university service.
Professional experience as an orchestra director, preferably at the collegiate level.
Strong track record in conducting and teaching, with evidence of scholarly or creative research.

Assistant Professor: AFT Range 22–25
Associate Professor: AFT Range 26–29
Full Professor: AFT Range 30–33
In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is as listed above. Placement within the range will be determined by candidate qualifications, experience, internal equity, and other factors. Appropriate start‑up packages may be available. All positions are contingent upon budget appropriations.
