What You Will Do

Assist the Group Leader with integrating the A21 into the Mk7 delivery system through concurrent engineering and compatibility assessments.

Develop and manage the UK A21/Mk7 Integration Team, ensuring cross‑team/program integration in domains of design, testing, evaluation, qualification, and production.

Provide engineering expertise and resolve complex technical and programmatic issues associated with the atomic weapon.

Plan, organize, and manage technical, line, and administrative activities within the group, promoting a healthy work environment encouraging learning, teaming, mutual respect, and excellence.

Work with division managers and leaders in operational planning, strategic planning, program implementation, communications, and execution of projects and deliverables related to international programs.

Participate in conducting performance appraisals, salary management, recruiting, staffing, diversity, employee development, and personnel issue resolution.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

Nuclear weapons knowledge: knowledge and experience related to nuclear weapons and the U.S. stockpile, and engineering experience related to systems, aerospace, or related engineering directly related to weapons systems, subsystems design, or weapon technology development.

Program/Project Development Skills: experience in project or program development, advocacy, and strategic planning; demonstrated use of project management principles and tools to deliver product on schedule, engaging multiple disciplines and organizations.

Leadership Skills: demonstrated successful leadership skills and record of developing and fostering cross‑organizational teams to solve complex problems.

Demonstrated Experience With Conflict Resolution: ability to identify, recruit, and retain innovative staff and support their development for new weapon design, development and/or realization in challenging environments.

Communication And Collaboration Skills: excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, ability to interact effectively with all levels of Laboratory personnel, and experience working with multiple internal and external organizations to accomplish major project deliverables.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications

A Master of Science degree in mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering field is preferred.

Experience interfacing with Navy SSP, NNSA, SNL, and with one or more of the NSE production agencies.

Experience interfacing with foreign countries using U.S. transmissibility or export control rules.

Familiarity with issues and challenges related to nuclear weapon lifecycles.

Experience performing work without appreciable direction and managing activities of a broad functional area.

Experience working directly with NNSA and communicating budget requirements, scope requirements, milestone reporting, and program review processes and deliverables.

Experience working with AWE and MOD through Information Exchange Arrangements.

Knowledge of Trident Warhead Project Group and Joint Reentry System Working Group programmatic exchange forums.

Active Q clearance, or ability to obtain an Active Q clearance.

Work Environment

Work location is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance and Eligibility Q clearance is required. The position will be cleared to this level. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the federal government, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter.

New‑Employment Drug Test The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new‑employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre‑offer.

Regular Position Term status: Laboratory employees applying for regular‑status positions are converted to regular status. Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
