Summary: The Assistant 7 Hour Student Nutrition follows all Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Student Nutrition Services (SNS) guidelines and procedures. The Assistant 7 Hour Student Nutrition performs manual work in the preparation, serving and cashiering of federal reimbursable meals and a la carte foods to students and staff, under immediate supervision. Responsibilities
Assists student during meal service, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and school rules while circulating through the cafeteria. Prepares, cooks, and serves all food items, including hot and cold items, ensuring correct portion sizes and replenishing the serving line. Takes and records temperatures during preparation and serving; follows corrective action procedures if items are not in safe temperature zones. Sets up serving line, obtains paper products and utensils, and presents food attractively. Provides friendly, respectful customer service, acknowledges students by name, thanks customers, and promotes healthy food choices. Enters meal components correctly, documents emergency meal transactions, handles cash and checks accurately, checks alerts for special diets, and follows end-of-day cash procedures. Receives, checks in, and stocks food; checks out food for production and organizes storage areas. Maintains program accountability and compliance with federal, state, and local rules; records production, HACCP, meal accountability, and cash documentation. Circulates in the cafeteria to assist students and encourage balanced meals and trying unfamiliar foods. Assists SNS staff with student special diet requests and ensures correct food is served for dietary needs. Assists with food tastings by collaborating with SNS manager and staff; collects student feedback. Prepares and cleans “allergy free” tables; maintains clean cafeteria surfaces and equipment; supports overall kitchen and storage area cleanup. Performs any other duties as assigned. Job Knowledge: Demonstrates needed job skills; ability to learn; keeps current with developments; works with minimal supervision. Experience: Sufficient kitchen or cooking experience to acquire necessary knowledge. Language Skills: Reads and interprets safety and operating instructions; writes routine reports; speaks effectively before groups. Mathematical Skills: Performs basic arithmetic, including money, weight, volume, and distance. Reasoning Ability: Understands and follows detailed instructions; handles standardized problems. Computer Skills: Basic computer skills required. Physical Demands
Physical Activities: Walking, standing, stooping, squatting, handling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and keyboarding. Lifting: Up to 35 pounds. Reaching: Both hands; overhead as needed.
