Vegetation Management Inspector - ISA (1 Year) | Grass Valley, CA

ACRT Pacific is seeking an energetic entry‑level professional to gain forestry experience. The Vegetation Management Inspector (VMI) will patrol utility lines for hazardous trees, perform inspections, and coordinate tree clearance activities while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform circuit patrols in accordance with the annual VM plan and VM patrol standards.
Identify required tree work along PG&E rights‑of‑way, prescribe job work, and document inspections.
Ensure inspections meet applicable standards and notify relevant authorities and customers.
Support new business and reconstructions requested by the energy delivery organization.
Conduct work‑verification inspections and verify completion and quality of tree work.
Investigate tree‑related outages, attend outage meetings, and document findings.
Track, field‑check, and prescribe work on assigned VM tags, including EC/LC notifications, gas OCW notifications, and CC&B cases.
Assist in close‑out of CC&B cases in the field.
Support emergency response operations, dispatch crews, field‑check sites, and coordinate first responder agreements.
Complete tasks assigned by supervisor and support vegetation projects such as tree assessment and trimming.
Participate in Contractor safety and tailboard meetings.
Represent PG&E in customer relations and coordinate among contractors, communities, agencies, and first responders.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (annual permits, encroachment permits, traffic control plans, rail permits, Caltrans permits, environmental protection measures).
Proficiently use electronic devices and documentation tools; provide electronic and paper‑based reporting.
Basic Responsibilities
Patrol distribution or transmission circuits and prescribe work to be performed by PG&E’s tree contractor, ensuring compliance for a minimum of one calendar year.
Determine trim or removal requirements, assess hazard tree potential, and notify property owners.
Prescribe required tree pruning and removal for electric compliance tags such as 540 tags.
Manage EC notifications and cases, investigate outages, obtain permits, and document work in VMDSR or other PG&E databases.
Use computers and handheld devices to enter and process data.
Perform emergency response duties per safety requirements and regulations.
Maintain direct contact with PG&E division personnel, public agencies, and customers as directed.
Exemplify ACRT’s Guiding Principles and perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment, Environmental and Safety Requirements
Operations involve driving vehicles, forklifts, and forestry equipment.
Work on uneven ground, exposure to noise, temperature extremes, dust, gas, fumes, and chemicals.
Prolonged periods of sitting during driving or training sessions.
Use forestry safety gear such as hard hats, safety vests, and safety glasses.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Class C driver’s license.
One year experience as a VMI or equivalent on a utility contract.
Active ISA Arborist certification (required).
Preferred Qualifications
2‑year or 4‑year college degree in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, biology, environmental studies, conservation, or a related field.
Required Skills
Identification of local trees and knowledge of growth rates.
Ability to learn and use job‑specific software systems.
Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather.
Map reading and navigation skills.
Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
Adaptability, flexibility, and independent work capability.
Commitment to quality, accuracy, and timeliness of work.
Compensation Base hourly rate: $43.26. In‑locus benefit amount: $10.82. Total hourly compensation: $54.08. Additional daily subsistence payment for eligible hours in excess of four hours.
