Program Manager – Defense Programs
Our client headquartered in Virginia is seeking a Program Manager based in Huntsville, AL or Arlington, VA. The position reports to the VP of Business Development and offers a hybrid workplace with two remote days. The Program Manager will lead planning, execution, and delivery of defense programs in alignment with technical performance, contractual commitments and customer expectations.
About the Role The ideal candidate has led and managed cross‑functional standalone projects or elements of complex defense programs, including planning, execution and budget processes. Possesses proven program management, problem solving, strategic and communication skills (both written and oral).
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for ensuring program execution including plans, status and contract deliverables are effectively communicated and delivered to various stakeholders
Utilize Project Management methodologies and tools to successfully set up, manage and complete projects, while achieving cost, schedule, technical and quality objectives
Collaborate with business development team to assist with proposal efforts, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), Statement of Work (SOW), Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and Project Management Plans
Coordinate project reviews and other events with customers and company management, while building and maintaining effective customer relationships
Monitor project status for early identification of potential issues and develop corrective/preventative/root cause action plans
Manage project teams to meet requirements while adhering to company policies and procedures
Review project achievement and forecast against project baseline to forecast schedule and cost at completion
Communicate and present project status cost/schedule reports to company leadership
Implement Risk Management plan to manage project technical, cost, schedule and quality risks
Build and maintain effecting working relationships with international colleagues to facilitate coordination of project management functions and knowledge share
Requirements
Proficiency with complex defense programs (ideally military, missile defense or space)
Proven strategic planning, execution and budget management
Software: MS Office, MS Project and ERP (Epicor preferred)
Project Management: Earned Value Management (EVM), Risk Management, Cost Estimation and Pricing
Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally to various locations (up to 25%)
Qualifications
8+ Years’ Program Management in the Aerospace & Defense industry, including relevant Project Management experience
Product Development Lifecycle background preferred
Bachelor’s degree from accredited four‑year College or University in Business, Engineering or Science
Must be US Citizen and eligible to obtain US DoD Secret Clearance (active clearance a plus)
