Overview

Transportation Engineer – Civil (TEC) position with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). This role is located in Arcata, CA, with work in the field and on projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures, and appurtenances. The incumbent may serve as Assistant Structure Representative, Structure Representative, or Resident Engineer on construct ion projects, reviewing contract documents, submittals, and engineered plans. Responsibilities

Perform professional engineering work on highway construction projects in a field and office setting. Ensure contractor work complies with contract documents (Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, contract plans and Special Provisions). Progress to more complex assignments with experience, including field oversight and reviews of contract documents and submittals. Participate in the mandatory TE (Civil) Professional Development Rotation Program for permanent full-time TE (Civil) hires after January 1, 2017. Qualifications

Eligibility for hire may depend on execution of the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam and state examination requirements. Review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, do not take the online exam before passing the written hurdle. Possession of a valid and unrestricted Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer (Civil) license may be required depending on the range (Range D requires a valid PE license). Possession of a valid driver’s license is required for operating state-owned or leased vehicles; a valid Class C driver’s license is required for this position. Statement of Qualification (SOQ) is required. Resumes do not replace the SOQ and must be submitted with the application. Special Requirements

Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required. Complete and submit the SOQ, which should be no more than 2 pages, single-spaced, in 12-point font, addressing the following: focus of Civil Engineering coursework or experience; why you want to work for Structure Construction in Humboldt; why you are the best candidate. Include CDL details (CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements) on the application. Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview/appointment. If qualifying by education, provide unofficial transcripts or diploma; foreign transcripts must include a U.S. equivalency evaluation. How to Apply
