Squire Patton Boggs is seeking a mid-level Associate, with at least 2 years of solid general data privacy and security experience, to join the U.S. team of our leading global Data Privacy, Cybersecurity and Digital Assets Practice. In-house and government experience will be considered. This position can be based in any of our U.S. offices.
Responsibilities
Work directly with partners worldwide in our highly ranked and regarded global Data Privacy, Cybersecurity and Digital Assets Practice Group, assuming significant responsibility for projects and directly interfacing with clients; carry out compliance gap assessments and implementing remediation plans; draft policies and procedures (privacy policies, privacy statements, incident response plans, vendor contracting templates and DPAs, etc.); advise on data-related (e.g., technology, data processing, data sales and licensing and AI) commercial contracts and M&A transactions; and assist clients to determine compliance risks and priorities and implementing data protection and information governance programs. Academic And Professional Qualifications
Possess a JD from an accredited law school and a strong academic record. Admitted to a US State Bar and in good standing. Admission to the Bar in the state of the primary office is expected if not currently admitted. Certified Information Privacy Professionals are strongly preferred, including CIPP-US, CIPP-EU, and CIPM. Knowledge, Skills & Experience
At least 2-4 years of substantial applied experience with data and digital issues, and 3-6 years of legal experience post-JD. Experience with at least several of the following: FTC and State AG guidance best practices and enforcement, GLBA, HIPAA, HITECH Act, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, COPPA, FCRA, FERPA, VPPA, Cable Act, Privacy Act, CCPA and other state consumer privacy laws, WA "My Health My Data" and other state consumer health data privacy laws, Cal-OPPA, Shine the Light, CO AI Act, BIPA and state biometric data laws, state breach notification and security laws, US-EU and US-Swiss Data Protection Framework, EO 14117, DOJ Regulations regarding bulk sensitive personal data transfers to countries of concern and PADFFA. Working understanding of privacy technologies to support compliance, including cookie CMPs and information governance platforms. Excellent research and organizational skills; strong verbal and written communication abilities. A self-starter with the ability to prioritize workload with competing demands, work with a geographically dispersed team, display good judgment and work well under pressure. Must desire working in a collaborative, congenial environment as part of a team. Interest in partnership path, and willing to work to develop the professional skills to advance toward Senior Associate and ultimately partner. Proven ability to independently manage matters, or meaningful segments of large/complex matters, and to facilitate pushing projects to completion. Application Process
