Location: Corpus Christi, TX. This role is part of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) Food Service Department. The position is a full‑time, regular, non‑exempt office support role with month‑by‑month salary in the Texas-A-09 range ($2,481.75 – $3,404.91).
Brief Job Description The Administrative Assistant I serves as the office manager and performs all clerical tasks for the Food Service department, ensuring the completion and accuracy of all Food Service records. The role reports to the Director of Food Service and, in the Director’s absence, supervises the Clerk II. The assistant originates new methods and techniques as needed and adapts to well‑defined guidelines.
Essential Job Functions
Generates orders for food, equipment and supplies to ensure department needs are met (10%).
Records accurate frozen inventory and food reservoir data (10%).
Prepares Food Service department accounting records and reports (35%).
Supervises and trains other clerical staff in all departmental clerical areas (10%).
Processes termination/ resignation/ retirement paperwork and new hire promotions ensuring compliance with APSR and CAPPS/CCSSLC policies (15%).
Conducts performance evaluations of assigned staff (10%).
Ensures assigned staff complete mandatory training and participation (5%).
Promotes diversity principles in accordance with the Workforce Diversity/Affirmative Action Plan (5%).
Supports disaster response, recovery or continuity operations as required (incorporates alternate shift patterns or locations).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Texas Driver’s License with less than 10 points.
Proficiency with standard office equipment.
Ability to supervise and train staff.
Typing speed of 40 wpm accurately.
Knowledge of Human Resource policies and procedures.
Knowledge of CCSSLC Worker's Comp Management Plan.
Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, APICs and MIMS.
Ability to keep department records current at all times.
Ability to accurately record and relay telephone messages.
Ability to compile a Food Service Accounting Report from accounting records.
Completion of all PMAB training as required by Human Resource Development.
Adherence to CCSSLC and Food Service department policies at all times.
Provide emotional support and therapeutic interaction with individuals residing on campus.
Compliance with dress code and hygiene standards.
Exhibit cooperative interaction patterns with others.
Complete job tasks within agreed time frames and uphold infection control protocols.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications A Food Handlers permit is required.
Initial Screening Criteria High School diploma or GED required. Two years’ clerical experience with one year’s experience as a lead clerk required.
Additional Information
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Male applicants aged 18–25 must register with the Selective Service.
All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to random drug testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required; overtime, extended hours, weekends and holidays may be required.
