The job of the Student Advocate was established for the purpose of assisting junior high/high school students who may be below proficiency and need additional support. Under the direction of the designated Lead Counselor, the role involves developing their skills, providing support, and facilitating communication while offering education. Essential Functions

First and foremost, you must have a desire to make a difference in kids' lives. Responsibilities include: Providing guidance and advocacy to students to ensure they meet academic and behavioral requirements to move to the next grade level. Linking students and their families to school and community resources. Monitoring attendance and discipline. Communicating with administration, counselors, students, and families. This position has afternoon hours from 2:30 PM to 8:30 PM Monday-Thursday and Friday mornings 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This is a grant-funded position. Student Advocates will work with students in adult education and the English as a Second Language program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Communicates accurately and timely with students and their families to ensure a continuous school/family partnership exists. Evaluates student progress, including attendance, academic, and behavioral data. Coordinates with community partners to build resources. Keeps accurate records of student, parent, staff, and community contacts. Participates in conferences to develop student action plans. Assists with the supervision of students during instructional and non-instructional time. Supports a positive school climate while interacting with students, families, staff, and community members. Maintains confidentiality when dealing with students, families, staff, and community members. Performs moderate to extensive physical activity, including frequent standing or walking. Facilitates social and emotional growth with students. Improves professional competence through professional development. Participates in staff meetings at both site and district levels. Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Must be able to operate standard office equipment; prepare and maintain accurate records; utilize pertinent software applications; and employ problem-solving techniques. Must have knowledge of instructional/tutorial procedures and practices; intervention techniques; age-appropriate activities; stages of child development; and safety practices and procedures.
