Business Development Manager – Civil / Commercial Litigation Join A&O Shearman as a Business Development Manager specializing in Civil and Commercial Litigation.

This role offers a base compensation range of $154,000 – $182,000 per year, based on experience and performance.

Role Purpose Support and work closely with partners to develop and implement business development and marketing strategies for the firm’s U.S. offices and the Disputes and Litigation practices.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute practice strategy and client target lists.

Create competitive proposals, credentials, pitches, and presentations.

Coordinate existing and new cross‑practice and cross‑office initiatives.

Conduct market research and advise on marketing strategies.

Lead marketing meetings and circulate progress to relevant groups.

Co‑coordinate PR, press coverage, and legal directory submissions.

Manage sponsorships, client events, and SEM initiatives.

Maintain litigation proposal database and share insights.

Mentor junior team members and support their professional development.

Key Relationships

Senior Manager of Business Development – White Collar & Investigations (Boston)

Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer – Americas (New York)

Partners and fee earners in the Commercial Litigation group

U.S. business development team and global business development teams

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of legal or professional services experience in a high‑profile, fast‑paced environment.

Strong understanding of the Disputes sectors; experience preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail and client focus.

High‑level interpersonal and influencing skills, including selling concepts and presenting to senior management.

Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize under conflicting deadlines.

Proven track record of achieving strategic business objectives and managing resources.

Experience with budgeting, business case writing is a plus.

Strong knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Bachelor’s degree required.
