The hours for this position will be 6:30 am - 2:00 pm

Summary The Assistant 7 Hour Student Nutrition follows all Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Student Nutrition Services (SNS) guidelines and procedures. The Assistant performs manual work in the preparation, serving, and cashiering of federal reimbursable meals and a la carte foods to students and staff, under immediate supervision.

Responsibilities

Assist students during meal service, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and school rules while circulating through the cafeteria.

Prepare, cook, and serve all food items, including hot and cold foods, offering correct portion sizes and replenishing the serving line.

Take and record food temperatures during preparation and serving, following procedures for corrective actions if needed.

Set up the serving line with appropriate paper products and utensils, and display food attractively.

Provide friendly customer service, acknowledging students by name, thanking them, and encouraging healthy choices.

Enter meal components correctly, document emergency meal transactions, handle cash and checks accurately, and follow end-of-day cash procedures.

Receive, check-in, and stock food; organize storage rooms, refrigerators, and freezers.

Maintain program accountability, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and document accordingly.

Assist in encouraging students to eat balanced meals and try new foods, and support students with special diet requests.

Help with food tastings and prepare allergy-free tables as per procedures.

Ensure cleanliness of cafeteria tables, serving lines, and kitchen areas, and assist with overall cleanup.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience in kitchen or cooking preferred.

No specific licenses required.

Basic computer skills required.

Physical Demands Includes walking, standing, stooping, handling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, keyboarding, lifting up to 35 pounds, and working in noisy or extreme temperature environments.
