Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a

Mobile Diesel Technician Level II .

Responsibilities

Perform licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned.

Perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. Learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.

Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT Inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.

Perform minor adjustments and repairs on electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, engine electronics, fuel and cooling systems, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and related components.

Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment including electrical, air conditioning, engines, transmissions, and other systems.

Inspect and test equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments and road-test vehicles to ensure proper operation.

Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate/choose solutions with sound judgment.

Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.

Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, perform safety checks, and conduct pre-/post-trip inspections.

Communicate with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.

Manage concurrent tasks with effective prioritization and scheduling.

Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.

Document work per company standards and upload RO data, parts used, and findings via iOS device and TRAIT application.

Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.

Work independently with a solid daily schedule and maintain productivity within or near standard repair times.

Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.

Coordinate with management for approvals on estimates and RO findings, and discuss purchase orders.

Operate in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and applicable regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience; or alternative combinations such as higher degree/certification or 5 years’ related experience.

Own a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.

Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.

Must be able to pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical; DOT medical card acceptable if valid more than 4 months, otherwise a DOT physical is required.

Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority.

Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain Driver Qualification File.

Certifications

ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.

Preferred Certifications

ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), and T8/609 (EPA) certifications.

Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; capable of moderate to heavy labor.

Strong communication; ability to convey information clearly and engage in two-way dialogue.

Identify tools and equipment needed for tasks and apply logical reasoning to solve problems.
