The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is seeking

Equipment Operator II

for the

Division of Highway Services (DHS) . The Equipment Operator II will be responsible for operating moderately complex vehicles and/or heavy highway construction and maintenance equipment including but not limited to various dump trucks, asphalt patch truck, cleaner flusher truck, front end loader, backhoe, rollers and skid loaders with attachments; performing driver/operator preventative maintenance tasks and performing manual labor tasks at job sites when not operating equipment. The Employee may also instruct less skilled employees in the operation of vehicles/equipment. Overtime is required during snow removal, storms (wind/rain, ice), leafing operations and other emergencies. The individual selected for this position will be considered an “Essential Employee.” Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave. The individual selected is REQUIRED to work overtime during inclement weather situations and emergencies, which may include overnight stays. All Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications will be scheduled to participate in a skills examination. Applicants will be notified of the skills examination test date, times and venue via email prior to the test date. What You'll Be Doing

As an Equipment Operator II this person will perform the following duties : Operates and performs inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment such as dump trucks, asphalt distributors, catch basin cleaner-flusher trucks, loaders, backhoes, rollers, skid loaders, paving equipment, weldings and related tasks as described. Participates in seasonal activities including snow and ice removal, including applying salt brine, installing and operating blade attachments, and calibrating the abrasive distributor and Leaf Vacuuming Program. Performs unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor as part of a crew, including use of power saws, chainsaws, tampers, torches & welders, pole saws, concrete-finishing tools, etc. May drive and labor during snow removal and leafing operations. Responds to weather-related emergencies and other urgent situations (e.g., downed trees, clogged storm drains, accidents). Performs related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

Two (2) years of experience operating equipment equivalent to that listed in the Equipment Operator I class specification. Education:

Ability to read and write in English and carry out oral and written instructions. Equivalency:

None. Physical Ability:

Light to moderate physical effort is continuously used; regular heavy lifting and manual labor tasks may be required. LICENSE:

Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "B" (or equivalent) Commercial driver’s license (CDL) from the applicant's state of residence. Important Information
