Job Description & Duties Under the direction of the Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer, Supervisor (Construction Electrical Engineer, Branch Chief), the Transportation Engineer, Electrical (Transportation Electrical Engineer) performs a wide variety of professional electrical and electronic engineering duties in support of the Traffic Safety & Operations Division-Transportation Management Center (TMC) within the Electrical Construction Branch. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, design, construction, maintenance, and inspection of electrical and electronic systems used in transportation management and traffic operations.

As the incumbent progresses in experience, assignments become progressively more complex and may function as a lead person over the activities of various electrical and electronic engineering and technical personnel.

If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Electrical in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Working Conditions Position located at 7177 Opportunity Road, San Diego, CA 92111.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

Work environment is both indoors and in the field. While working indoors in an office setting, the incumbent works in a climatecontrolled environment with artificial lighting. Multi-floored buildings are equipped with elevators and stairs. For outdoor field work activities, the incumbent may be exposed to variable traffic conditions, dirt, dust, chemicals, loud noise, uneven surfaces, and severe weather conditions. The incumbent must be aware and comply with field safety procedures when working in the field. Travel throughout the District is required, which includes San Diego and Imperial Counties. Possession of a valid driver's license is required to operate a State-owned or leased vehicle. Working at night and overtime may be required.

Special Requirements

Appointment to Range D requires possession of a valid certificate of registration as an electrical engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Appointment to this position requires passing the Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) Applicants must also submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). The SOQ is a discussion of how an applicant's education, training, experience, and skills meet the criteria in the duty statement and qualify the applicant for this position.

Describe your knowledge and experience in the field of electrical and electronic engineering. Provide examples of previous projects you have participated in or led.

Provide examples that demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with team members, contractors, and other agencies. Include your experience in preparing correspondence, reports, and presentations.

Describe your experience using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), computer applications, and other engineering tools.

Describe your experience analyzing electrical engineering issues or field inspections and developing solutions. Explain the steps you took and describe the outcome or impact of your solution.
