Associate Dir Development II (IC)
The Nature Conservancy (Dallas, TX) seeks an Associate Director of Development to plan, implement, and coordinate multi‑year strategies for Dallas area gift prospects with a focus on individual giving, plus potential corporate and foundation giving. This position is part of a high‑performing fundraising team covering major and principal gifts, foundations and corporations, loyal donor and estate planning in Texas, with annual fundraising results in excess of $16 million. Although this is a Texas Chapter position, we collaborate with colleagues in the Great Plains Division, all 50 states and 70+ countries to implement donor‑driven strategies that maximize overall giving to the Conservancy.
Responsibilities
Build and manage a portfolio of 60‑90 qualified donors, including donors with the capacity to give over $250,000, and develop strong relationships.
Develop donor strategies, including prospect development, qualification, and direct asks to meet funding needs for local and global priorities.
Discuss assets and identify opportunities for gifts of assets or other non‑cash gifts, such as planned gifts and land trades.
Provide opportunities for donor recognition and increased future giving; engage field partners and the Worldwide Office; address questions as needed.
Confidently discuss program details and legacy giving opportunities; understand project budgets and may build proposal budgets.
Develop a referral network and may manage formal and informal volunteer networks; use the Conservancy’s donor database and may develop proposals.
Conduct 60‑90 donor visits per year, prepare contact reports after each visit, and manage 180‑270 moves annually; maintain an annual fundraising goal of $1.5M or more plus bequest commitments.
Manage projects with multiple variables and timelines; collaborate with conservation staff at local, division, and global levels to engage donors; communicate conservation goals to donors and prospects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years related experience or an equivalent combination.
Experience building and maintaining long‑term relationships with fundraising constituents.
Experience asking for and closing gifts of $50,000 or more, including planned gifts.
Experience managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors; experience working with cross‑functional teams.
Experience with fundraising principles and practices.
Desired Qualifications
Experience cultivating and stewarding a pipeline of new donors; donor specific strategy development.
Experience in fundraising strategy development focusing on identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors.
Experience with Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) software (e.g., Blackbaud, Raiser’s Edge).
Salary Information
The starting pay range for this role is generally $90,000 – $115,000. This range applies to candidates in the USA; actual pay is determined by location, qualifications, skills, and experience. Countries outside the USA may have a different range in local currency. Your location will be confirmed during recruitment.
