As a Trade Compliance Manager at Shield AI, you’ll be a key part of enabling and protecting the business. You’ll work closely with engineering, legal, and operations teams to build and maintain compliance infrastructure that supports product development, licensing, and global shipments. Your work will be instrumental to protect service members and civilians across the globe.
Responsibilities
Partner with engineering, business development, program, and operations teams to identify export classification and licensing needs for products, software, and technology.
Prepare, submit, and maintain export license applications and agreements (e.g., DSP-5s, TAA, MLAs, BIS licenses).
Create and manage internal controls, including jurisdiction and classification workflows, visitor screening, and controlled technical data access.
Lead audits and assessments to identify gaps and drive continuous improvement in our trade compliance program.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school, or equivalent legal training
5+ years of experience in U.S. export compliance, including jurisdiction/classification and licensing under ITAR and EAR
Experience managing or administering export licenses and agreements through DECCS and SNAP-R
A strong understanding of trade compliance requirements in a tech or defense-focused environment
Familiarity with software technical data and technology controls and access restrictions
Demonstrated people management experience, including leading, mentoring, and developing compliance or cross‑functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
Built or scaled a trade compliance program at a fast‑moving technology company.
Experience working with government agencies (e.g., DDTC, BIS, DHS) during audits or disclosures.
Comfortable working with engineers and product teams to interpret technical documentation and identify export control implications.
Hold a compliance certification (e.g., ECoP, ITAR/EAR training) or completed relevant government export control training courses.
