General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store and for general operations and supervision when acting as Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors open and close the Store, supervise Associates, and maintain a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment. They ensure proper merchandise presentation and a clean work area at all times and execute and supervise Company operational processes as needed.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviours in everything they do.
Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone. Immediately correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to Store Leadership.
Secure the building including entrance/exit control, Electronic Article Surveillance devices, Cash Office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
Assure customer safety, including accident prevention, accident reporting, and emergency procedures.
Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
Treat all Customers, Associates, and other leaders with respect.
Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times. Recognize Associates using Company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
Represent and support the Company brand at all times.
Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with Company Dress Code. Ensure all Associates adhere to the Dress Code.
Keep all areas of the Store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
Responsible for daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to Company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per best practice.
Receive merchandise trucks when needed.
Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
Receive all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries (e.g., signs, supplies, special deliveries).
Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
Deliver and place merchandise on sales floor when processed.
Secure and process back‑stock per Company policy.
Merchandise department including the back stock.
Reduce loss due to damage.
Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in assigned area.
Perform floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.
Perform re‑wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention
Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program. Maintain a large customer service presence on the sales floor, engage customers and associates, and heighten loss‑prevention awareness.
Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions. Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
Maintain the Public View Monitor system.
Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
Execute all Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.
Front End Supervision and Operations
Execute all Company Best Practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and extra touches. Ensure Associates follow Front‑End standards.
Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the Front‑End, managing the line to expedite customer wait time.
Train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other Front‑End procedures for friendly and productive standards.
Control Retail Associates’ break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks.
Ensure all equipment is working properly.
Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the Front‑End area.
Ensure go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.
Teach all Associates “Scan and Bag” best practice.
Ensure salability of merchandise on the Front‑End, aisle tables, Men’s/Women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
Maintain and clean Fitting Rooms.
Audit and account for all Fitting Room garment tags per Company policy.
Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day. All merchandise returned to the sales floor must be ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security‑tagged as needed.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
Ensure cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted to Company policy.
Control Front‑End when needed. Understand and adhere to policies and procedures for refund approval, associate purchase approval, securing tills and cash, register paid‑outs/ins, void approval, register media, and break schedules.
Perform payroll administration including daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting.
Other duties as assigned by Store Manager.
