General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store, as well as the general operations and supervision when serving as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly and easy‑to‑shop environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and managing a clean work area at all times. Area Supervisors also perform and supervise company operational processes as needed.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments

Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything they do.

Maintain a high level of sales‑floor awareness to create a safe environment; immediately correct or report unsafe conditions.

Secure building entrance/exit, Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) devices, cash office, armored carrier pick‑ups and register area.

Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.

Manage customer safety including accident prevention, reporting and emergency procedures.

Test fire alarm systems as scheduled; respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.

Customer Service

Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.

Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times; recognize associates using company recognition programs.

Personal and Store Brand

Represent and support the company brand at all times.

Maintain a professional appearance and enforce the company dress code on all associates.

Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.

Responsible for daily trash removal.

General Merchandising

Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks and following up.

Receive merchandise trucks when needed.

Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.

Receive all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.

Assist in placing merchandise on the sales floor once processed.

Secure and process back‑stock per company policy.

Merchandise the department including back‑stock.

Reduce loss due to damage.

Ensure monthly presentation guidelines compliance.

Handle floor moves and promotions, including re‑wraps.

Loss Prevention

Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program.

Maintain a large customer service presence on the sales floor.

Safeguard confidential information, cash, card and merchandise information.

Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system.

Conduct "Code 50" package inspections.

Execute all company best practices while maximizing productivity.

Front End Supervision and Operations

Ensure associates are executing to company standards at the front end.

Maintain pace, energy and presence; manage the line to expedite customer wait time.

Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control and front end procedures.

Control associate break schedules for backups, lunches and breaks.

Ensure all equipment functions properly.

Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the front end area.

Ensure go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security tagged and ticketed.

Teach the "Scan and Bag" best practice to all associates.

Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, 4‑way features, and specialty racks.

Fitting Rooms

Maintain and clean the fitting rooms.

Ensure all garment tags are audited and accounted for per company policy.

Ensure go‑back compliance; all returned merchandise is ticketed, scanned, nubbed and security tagged as needed.

Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager

Ensure cash pulls and bank deposits are conducted to company policy.

Handle front end control when needed; adhere to refund approval, associate purchase approval, securing tills and cash procedures.

Responsible for payroll administration including daily punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission and payroll reporting.

Other duties as assigned by store manager.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Fluency in English.

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.

Basic mathematical calculations for retail.

Availability to work evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements / ADA Ability to use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PC as required. Ability to stand, walk and move around the store up to 100% of working time. Ability to regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach and stoop. Ability to occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 lbs. Ability to use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other supplies. Associates who work stockroom shifts: ability to regularly push, pull and lift more than 20 lbs.
