This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible to participate in a DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Safety Leadership:
Lead with a safety mindset, ensuring injury-free interactions with associates, customers, and the public. Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to foster a safety-first culture.
Team Development:
Oversee and develop drivers and transportation associates through coaching, training, and performance discussions. Ensure proper training in safety and legal responsibilities.
Performance Management:
Discuss performance with senior managers, create improvement plans, and motivate team to meet goals.
Operational Supervision:
Direct work and productivity of drivers and clerical staff, drive engagement, and uphold company values.
Hiring and Evaluation:
Participate in hiring, review performance, coach, and address disciplinary issues.
Safety and Compliance:
Monitor production goals, ensure accuracy, troubleshoot delivery issues, and ensure adherence to DOT regulations.
Process Improvement:
Identify waste, improve safety and efficiency processes.
Safety Meetings and Documentation:
Conduct safety and driver meetings, oversee maintenance of qualification files, investigate accidents, and track causes for preventative measures.
Scheduling:
Effectively schedule shifts using planning tools like Microsoft Excel.
Other Duties:
As assigned by the manager.
Supervision
Direct: Union and/or non-union drivers.
Relationships
Internal: Transportation leaders, drivers, warehouse leaders, other departments (e.g., Sales).
External: Customers.
Work Environment
Time on the road, exposure to noise/vibration, and time in an office working on a computer.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 3 years in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution.
At least 1 year overseeing a workforce.
Experience as a driver is a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Broad knowledge of transportation operations.
Leadership, communication, and development skills.
Understanding of DOT, OSHA, and inventory regulations.
Ability to interpret operational data.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
Travel
Approximately 10% for meetings or training.
Education/Training
High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
Physical Qualifications
Ability to perform activities such as driving, pushing/pulling, climbing, grasping, manipulating objects, and manual dexterity.
Compensation ranges from $55,000 to $90,000 based on experience and other factors.
