Area Supervisor – Ross Stores Join a leading off‑price retail chain with over 2,200 stores.

General Purpose Area Supervisors manage a specific area of the Store and serve as Manager on Duty when needed. Responsibilities include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining merchandising standards, and executing operational processes.

Essential Functions

Maintain a safe and secure environment: prioritize safety, secure building, manage EAS devices, cash office security, maintain emergency exits, test fire alarms, respond to after‑hours alarms.

Customer Service: treat all customers, Associates, and leaders with respect; demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognize Associates via company programs.

Preserve the Store brand: wear a professional appearance; keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised; perform daily trash removal.

General Merchandising: recover, size, and markdown merchandise to company standards; receive merchandise trucks; process merchandise promptly; organize stockrooms; place merchandise on the sales floor; secure and process back‑stock; ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines; perform floor moves and promotional signings.

Loss Prevention: understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program; maintain a strong customer service presence on the sales floor; safeguard confidential information, cash, and merchandise; maintain Public View Monitor (PVM) system; conduct “code” package inspections; execute all company best practices; maximize productivity while minimizing steps and touches.

Front End Supervision and Operations: train and coach Associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures; control retail Associates’ break schedule; ensure all equipment functions correctly; maintain proper supplies and recovery; expedite go‑backs; teach “Scan and Bag” best practice; ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, men’s/women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.

Fitting Rooms: maintain and clean fitting rooms; audit fitting room garment tags; comply with go‑back procedures.

Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager: conduct cash pulls, bank deposits, payroll administration (daily punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll, payroll reporting), and perform other duties assigned by the Store Manager.

Excellent verbal communication skills

Fluency in English

Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred

Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments

Ability to work evenings and weekends

Physical Requirements / ADA Ability to use all store equipment, stand, walk, and move around the store 100% of working time; regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop; occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs; use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies; for stockroom shifts, ability to regularly push, pull, and lift more than 20 lbs.

Base Pay Range $18.00 – $18.50 per hour. Base pay depends on experience, skills, qualifications, education, certifications, seniority, and location. Total compensation includes other rewards and benefits.
