Job Summary

As the Unit Maintenance Director with SSC Services for Education, you will lead the day-to-day operations of plant maintenance and facility services at Aurora University. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of preventive and corrective maintenance, building systems, and facility infrastructure while ensuring service delivery meets performance, safety, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, leadership experience, and a hands-on approach to managing teams, work orders, compliance, and vendor partnerships. You will serve as a key partner to the client, ensuring facilities are safe, operationally efficient, and aligned with SSC’s service excellence standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee all maintenance operations across building systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural infrastructure.

Implement and manage preventive maintenance programs using CMMS systems to ensure equipment reliability and operational continuity.

Supervise and develop on-site maintenance staff, ensuring adherence to technical standards, safety protocols, and customer service expectations.

Coordinate and oversee maintenance projects, vendor services, and contractor work to ensure timely and cost-effective execution.

Monitor and manage facility maintenance budgets, supply usage, and labor allocation in line with SSC and client objectives.

Conduct facility inspections and maintain records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and performance KPIs.

Utilize data and reporting tools to track maintenance performance, labor productivity, and service request completion.

Build strong relationships with school administrators and facility stakeholders to proactively address facility needs and align maintenance services with campus priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent experience accepted.

Minimum of 2 years’ leadership experience in maintenance, plant operations, or facilities management.

Strong working knowledge of building systems, life safety systems, and maintenance best practices.

Experience using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and other work order management platforms.

Excellent communication, leadership, and team development skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Valid driver’s license required.
