Social Worker I (Spanish Bilingual Preferred)

Location:

Mono County, CA (Mammoth Lakes, CA)

Job Summary:

Performs basic social services casework; identifies client needs for more intensive casework services and provides referrals; carries a caseload of moderately difficult cases; manages a caseload of increasingly difficult cases; performs other related work as assigned. Entry/trainee class in the professional Social Worker series.

Responsibilities

Conduct interviews with clients, family members, and others in their home, office, or via telephone to assess basic social, physical, and mental needs.

Perform case studies and evaluate individual and family case information to assess safety of children and adults; determine appropriate treatment.

Assess reports of suspected abuse; may be required to work on‑call and provide information to law enforcement.

Develop and carry out culturally sensitive non‑complex to moderate treatment plans for an assigned caseload; assist clients in strategies to accomplish case plan goals.

Refer clients to other staff members or community resources for direct and intensive services; advocate on clients’ behalf.

Assist applicants and recipients in utilizing available resources.

Interpret agency policies, rules, and regulations for applicants and clients.

Make home visits as required.

Prepare and maintain case records and databases; communicate decisions, timelines, and case plans.

May testify in court; may be assigned to specialized functions.

Participate in in‑service training and other staff development activities.

Receive casework consultation from professionally trained staff.

Provide community outreach for agency programs.

Maintain client confidentiality; perform duties in conformance with NASW Code of Ethics.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university; OR

Successful completion of 30 semester units or 45 quarter units from an accredited college or university, including 15 semester units or 22.5 quarter units in social welfare, social/human services, sociology, or other social or behavioral science; AND

One year of full‑time experience in the Social Service Aide, Eligibility Specialist II, Employment and Training Worker II, or comparable classification; OR three years of full‑time experience providing direct client services to disadvantaged adults or children.

Relevant coursework: anthropology, criminal justice, education, ethnic studies, history, human development, human services, law, nursing, nutrition, psychology, public health, social welfare, sociology, welfare, women’s studies.

Transcripts or official evaluation of foreign coursework must be submitted.

Language requirement: Spanish bilingual preferred but not required.

Valid driver’s license may be required.

Additional Information

Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish in addition to English is an asset.

Applicants may need to drive their own car and provide proof of insurance.

Background investigation may be required.
