Job Location Mono County, CA – Mammoth Lakes.

Language Requirement Spanish bilingual preferred, but not required.

Position Overview Social Worker I performs basic social services casework, identifies client needs, provides referrals, and carries a caseload of moderately difficult cases. The role is entry/trainee level and is performed under close supervision.

Supervision Social Worker I receives direct supervision from a Social Worker Supervisor or other higher-level supervisor or manager.

Responsibilities

Conduct interviews with clients, family members, or others in various settings to assess basic social, physical, and mental needs.

Perform case studies and evaluate individual and family case information to assess safety and determine treatment methods.

Assess reports of suspected abuse and may provide information to law enforcement or district attorneys.

Develop and carry out culturally sensitive treatment plans in conformance with agency, state, and federal requirements.

Refer clients to community resources for direct and intensive services when necessary.

Assist applicants and recipients in utilizing available resources.

Interpret policies and regulations for applicants and clients.

Make home visits as part of casework assignments.

Prepare and maintain case records, communicating decisions, timelines, and recommendations.

May testify in court and may be assigned to specialized functions.

Participate in in‑service training and other staff development activities.

Get casework consultation from professionally trained staff members.

Provide community outreach for various agency programs.

Maintain client confidentiality and comply with the NASW Code of Ethics.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university, *or* 30 semester units (or 45 quarter units) from an accredited institution including coursework in social welfare, social/human services, sociology, or a related field.

One year of full‑time experience in the Social Service Aide, Eligibility Specialist II, Employment and Training Worker II, or comparable classification, *or* three years of full‑time direct client service experience with disadvantaged adults or children.

Transcripts must be submitted; foreign transcripts require an evaluation of equivalent units.

Applicants must redact birthdates and social security numbers from transcripts.

Examination The Training & Experience Examination (WEIGHTED 100%) requires a minimum rating of 70%. The test is administered approximately two weeks after the closing date of the bulletin.

Additional Information

Spanish speaking ability is an asset but not required.

Valid driver’s license may be required; car insurance and DMV clearance may be requested.

Criminal history background check is required for all positions within the Department of Social Services.

A medical examination may be required.
