Helmsing Leach, a respected civil litigation law firm in downtown Mobile, Alabama, is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary / Legal Assistant to join our team. This full-time, in-office position supports several attorneys who handle a broad range of litigation, real property and local government matters. The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced law firm environment. The ability, and willingness, to learn new tasks is paramount.
Responsibilities
Provide direct litigation support and administrative assistance to multiple attorneys
Draft, revise, and e-file pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence in state and federal courts
Assist with document creation in various real estate matters, including land use litigation, land use applications and real property litigation
Perform accurate transcription and document preparation using Microsoft Word
Maintain attorney calendars, deadlines, and case schedules
Open and manage case files, including conflict checks and document organization across multiple platforms, including Netdocs and Sharepoint
Handle client communication, scheduling, and billing entries professionally
Manage document production, filings, and case records in compliance with firm procedures
Format and compile trial exhibits, PowerPoint presentations, and discovery indexes
Qualifications
At least 2–3 years of law firm experience, preferably in municipal law or insurance defense
Basic knowledge of real property transactions and document creation pertaining to real estate law
Strong familiarity with Alabama state courts and federal e-filing systems (AlaFile, CM/ECF)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
Excellent grammar, proofreading, and document formatting skills
Ability to work independently while managing competing deadlines
Minimum typing speed of 60+ WPM with high accuracy
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
Prior experience as a Litigation Secretary, Paralegal, or Legal Administrative Assistant
