Reporting directly to the Pretrial Services Manager, the Pretrial Services Officer may be assigned to either the Defendant Screening Unit or the Post Release Supervision Unit. The Pretrial Services Officer interviews and evaluates arrestees charged with criminal offenses to provide a bail recommendation to judicial officers and determines indigent status for court appointed attorney. Incumbent may provide post-release supervision and/or monitoring of defendants pursuant to court order, and may address alleged violations of terms and conditions of release. Responsibilities

Conducts interview and risk assessment screening of individuals to assist court in determining requirements of bail and/or indigence status for eligibility for court appointed counsel. Prepares Bail Report containing the terms and conditions of release that are recommended to be applied to individual defendant, and presents Report to the judicial officer for bail decision. Refers defendants released or due to be released on bond to agencies for assistance as appropriate. Serves as intermediary between judges and attorneys on questions concerning bond recommendations. Informs and briefs law enforcement, jail personnel, family and friends of arrestees, lawyers and others regarding arrestee’s bail status. Appears in Court when required and serves as Pretrial Services’ representative at Magistration and at District Court and County Courts at Law. Completes additional screenings on individuals not released on bail to facilitate re-consideration by judicial officers. As designee of the Court, appoints counsel to those defendants eligible for appointment. May provide testimony in Court. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Post Release Supervision Unit

Provides post-release supervision of defendant compliance with judicially ordered terms and conditions of release. Takes appropriate action to facilitate defendant compliance and links defendant with needed services. Provides intensive supervision for defendants subject to court-ordered monitoring on Electronic Monitoring, Alcohol Monitoring, House Arrest, etc. Investigates alleged violations of terms and conditions of release and takes appropriate action in response. Maintains records related to assigned defendants. Prepares and presents reports to judicial officer, as required, related to defendant’s post-release status. Conducts other post-release assessments, as necessary, in order to address specific defendant needs related to pretrial success, including but not limited to substance abuse, psychosocial, and educational services. Serves as backup to Pretrial Specialists in facilitating Cite-and-Release screening of individuals who were released on a field release citation. Serves as backup to Pretrial Specialists in facilitating the Emergency Protective Order modification process. Serves as backup to Pretrial Specialists in conducting indigence screening for individuals released from custody. Assists with collection of fees related to services provided by department, and handles those funds in compliance with existing County and Departmental policies and procedures. Reports directly to – Pretrial Services Manager. Direct Reports – None. Physical Demands

Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, prolonged reading, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, repetitive motions and standing. Position involves occasional lifting and carrying of up to fifty (50) pounds and exertion of up to twenty-five (25) pounds of force to move objects. Frequent written and verbal communication with office staff, Williamson County Jail staff, law enforcement agencies, Judges, court staff, attorneys, inmates, external agencies and the general public. Environmental Factors

Work is primarily indoors in a climate-controlled facility. Position requires work in a secure correctional environment, in monitored proximity to inmates. Work is fast paced, requires independent judgement, and an ability to meet strict, legally mandated deadlines with limited time constraints. Irregular Hours

Work outside of regular office hours (Monday-Friday) will be required to meet deadlines and accuracy requirements. Weekend and holiday work will be required. Positions in this classification may be designated as essential for emergency situations, depending on the needs of the Department. Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or directly related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of specific job-related terminology and technology. Possess or ability to obtain Texas Crime Information Center Certification. Possess or ability to obtain National Crime Information Center Certification. Ability to meet qualifications to become a Notary Public. Possess or obtain valid driver’s license. Possess and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record. Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year of experience in the criminal justice, behavioral science, or justice-related field. National Crime Information Center Certification. Employment Testing
