Student Worker - Large Animal Teaching Hospital (Dairy)
The position in the JTV Large Animal Teaching Hospital is responsible for assisting with the daily care of farm animal species, non‑equine, including milking of the lactating herd, daily herd checks, and possibly feeding of all non‑equine animals owned by the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Essential Functions There are two shifts associated with this position, AM and PM.
AM shift
– starts at 4:30 AM and ends around 8:30 AM. Responsibilities include setting up the milking system, ensuring equipment is cleaned from the prior shift, placing feed for animals assigned to the milking string, bringing animals in from pastures following SOPs, confirming all milking‑string animals are healthy, cleaning the milking parlor, returning animals to pasture, feeding replacement heifers, birth‑to‑weaning and steers/bulls raised in the hutch pen, and general care of all non‑equine species.
PM shift
– starts at 2:30 PM and ends around 6:30 PM. Responsibilities include those listed above, cleaning feed, stanchion area, and holding lot, performing inventory checks on all paddocks assigned to the Large Animal Teaching Herds, ensuring all animals are accounted for, reporting abnormalities, securing small ruminants (sheep and goats) to reduce predation risk, and general care of all non‑equine species.
Work Location City: Auburn, Alabama.
Pay Rate $10.00 per hour.
Work Hours Sun – Sat, 4:30 am – 9:00 am OR Sun – Sat, 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm. 7 days per week.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently enrolled as a student at Auburn University.
