Overview

The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Office Assistant 2 position in the Office of School Personnel Review & Accountability (OSPRA). This Office is responsible for preparing and prosecuting cases against teachers and school administrators who lack the moral character to hold such a credential pursuant to Education Law. OSPRA is also responsible for making determinations concerning whether employment clearances for school district employees should be issued based upon fingerprint supported criminal history background checks. Responsibilities

Oversee administrative/clerical tasks associated with Part 87 due process including typing and issuing intent to deny letters and criminal history charts. Handle administrative/clerical tasks associated with the Part 87 appeal process and serve as liaison with Office of Counsel regarding appeal communications and files. Answer questions from applicants and attorneys regarding denial and appeal process. Send out denial letters to applicants and termination letters to school districts. Mail out abeyance letters to applicants when needed. Independently track and coordinate cases; locate and distribute files daily to attorneys and legal staff; prioritize and manage deadlines in accordance with legal timeframes. Photocopy and file. Perform other duties related to the fingerprint-based criminal history background check process as assigned. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (NY HELPS program): One year of clerical experience. This title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment under NY HELPS; at a future date, employment may convert to competitive status. Details below are provided for open-competitive minimum qualifications and related requirements: Non-competitive Minimum Qualifications: One year of clerical experience. Promotion: Current State employees must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c as an Office Assistant 1; or one year of permanent service in a clerical or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher. Competitive Minimum Qualifications: Reassignment requires one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Office Assistant 2; Eligible List Appointment requires being reachable on the Civil Service eligible list; Section 70.1 Transfer requires one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-07 or above. Fingerprinting is required for employment; costs are covered by the Department. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm. Base pay

$42,641.00/yr - $52,413.00/yr Benefits
