Graduate Employee – Department of Kinesiology – Graduate Assistantship – Spring 2026
Inside Higher Ed presents a Graduate Assistantship position for students pursuing a Master of Science in Athletic Training, Kinesiology (Sport and Human Performance), or Sport Management at Sam Houston State University.
Position Details
Hours: 20 per week (up to 10 or 20 per week as needed).
Location: Sam Houston State University main campus, Lee Drain Building.
Assistantship Opportunities:
Faculty research assistant (research projects).
Teaching assistant (activity classes in weight training, sport skills).
Combination research & teaching (Exercise Physiology lab).
Summer employment may be available.
Assistantships are per semester and renewed based on performance.
Responsibilities
Coordinate laboratory daily schedule and maintain laboratory materials.
Assist in collecting and analyzing data and recruiting subjects for current research projects.
Perform literature searches and reviews.
Assist in instruction of KINE 3173: Exercise Physiology Lab for undergraduate students (option 2 and option 3).
Teach activity courses (Basketball/Soccer, Softball/Volleyball, Weight Training, Bowling, Racquet Sports, Dance).
Prerequisite: accepted to one of the graduate programs and currently enrolled.
Qualifications
Self‑motivation and high level of responsibility; complete tasks timely without direct supervision.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Background in sport skill or teaching activity classes.
Developed research skills.
Ability to learn new software and research techniques.
Maintain good academic standing per SHSU Graduate catalog.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, internet, electronic media).
Application Deadline Applications are accepted until all positions are filled. Deadline varies by semester. Refer to the following start dates:
Fall Semester: Application review begins May 1.
Spring Semester: Application review begins Oct 1.
Summer Semester: Application review begins Mar 1.
