Overview

The Coastside ED Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver responsible for assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in accordance with Seton Coastside standards and the Nurse Practice Act. Responsibilities

Position-specific duties (other duties as assigned): Assess, collect, and document health data focusing on physical, emotional, spiritual, psychosocial, and educational needs. Conduct patient/family interviews, identify needs and barriers, and perform ongoing assessments. Plan nursing care based on priority needs, develop realistic goals, and coordinate education and discharge planning with patients and families. Implement care plans, organize and prioritize care, monitor patient status, and initiate interventions using evidence-based practices. Coordinate team activities as primary nurse. Evaluate care effectiveness, adjust plans as needed, and document patient responses accurately. Utilize professional knowledge to assess physical and psychosocial needs, barriers, discharge, age-related issues, and issues related to assault or abuse. Analyze patient data, including vital signs, history, and lab results, to determine and adjust care. Apply advanced knowledge to prioritize needs and implement interventions in emergency settings, using a patient-centered approach. Provide age-specific health education, ensuring understanding of treatment and discharge instructions, addressing barriers to learning. Perform procedures such as IV insertions, medication administration, dressings, and patient teaching within scope and policy. Recognize emergencies, initiate appropriate treatments like CPR and oxygen, and communicate critical information effectively. Stay current with treatments and practices through ongoing education and literature review. Incorporate new knowledge into practice, demonstrating critical thinking and judgment for optimal care. Maintain competence in age-related patient care and adhere to the Nurse Practice Act, including RN supervision roles. Demonstrate proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. Follow regulations, guidelines, and safety standards, advocating for public health and safety through education. Complete documentation accurately and consistently, demonstrating caring and compassionate interactions while respecting patient dignity. Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program; Baccalaureate degree preferred. Experience: At least 1 year of RN experience, including ER and triage. Certifications/Licensure: Current California RN license. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications; NRP preferred; NIHSS current; TNCC and AB508 certifications preferred. Skills, Abilities, & Knowledge: Knowledge of California Nursing Practice Act. Ability to follow policies, procedures, and regulations. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Adherence to the Mission and Values of Seton Medical Center.
