Welcome! This position involves imaging / therapeutic services and patient care with support of the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine. Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure: Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program. Current or temporary Radiography License as required by the state board where services will be provided (see location-specific notes below). MD: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire. OH: Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT upon hire. PA: Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT within 12 months of hire. WV: Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT within 6 months of hire. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas. National Certification:

Must be nationally certified as defined by location where services will be provided (see location notes above). Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following describe the general nature of work and are not all-inclusive. Other duties may be assigned. Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics). Perform image procedures based on patient status, service request, and imaging protocols; monitored by periodic image evaluations and supervision. Produce images of optimal quality using imaging equipment and systems; ensure image delivery and archiving. Select exposure factors based on patient size, condition, and pathology to optimize image quality while minimizing radiation exposure. Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff via shielding, collimation, inverse square law, and minimizing repeats. Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to imaging to optimize procedures and ensure patient care / safety. Assess patient needs and provide imaging-related comfort, hygiene, range of motion, and support as needed. Prepare contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays per procedural guidelines. Educate patients regarding radiographic procedures; explain procedures and answer questions. Promote team approach to Radiology services by interacting with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff. Engage in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements to support high-quality, cost-effective care. Adhere to ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH policies, Radiology Department procedures, State and Federal Regulations, and Joint Commission guidelines. Report equipment failures immediately. Complete in-services and competencies by required date; apply knowledge gained. Position patients accurately according to established protocols. Coordinate daily workflow. Provide minimal instruction to radiology students in the clinical setting; supervise and instruct in accordance with Radiology program policies and accrediting bodies. Ensure all vital components of the imaging process are completed in full. Physical Requirements

Skills and Abilities

Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and health care team members. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple situations. Ability to adapt positioning techniques and equipment when routine positioning is compromised by patient condition. Note: The Radiology Technologist Clinical Ladder is a system-wide advancement program to enhance professional development and imaging quality. Details below describe levels and eligibility within this program. Level 1: No experience required. New radiology technologists or those with less than 12 months experience start at Level 1. Level 2: Meets previous level requirements; one year of experience; complete Skill Set Tech 1 plus additional skill sets. Level 3: Meets previous levels; one continuing education pathway; three years of experience; leadership/supervisory skills; complete Skill Sets Tech 1 and 2 plus three additional skill sets. Level 4: Meets previous levels; one continuing education pathway; five years of experience; leadership/supervisory skills; complete Skill Sets Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus three additional skill sets.
