EKG Telemetry Monitor Technician, PRN Days The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center invites qualified candidates to fill the role of EKG Telemetry Monitor Technician. The position operates on the day shift and focuses on the effective monitoring and management of patient telemetry systems.

Responsibilities

Initiate, maintain, troubleshoot, and discontinue electrodes, leads, and transmitters as requested; select appropriate leads for monitoring.

Interpret EKG strips (rate, rhythm, PR, QRS, QT intervals), establish baselines, and record new strips when needed.

Keep the telemetry log current, manage equipment and supplies, and ensure cost containment.

Follow infection control and safety policies, and document and troubleshoot telemetry monitoring stations.

Report abnormal and critical arrhythmias to RN immediately and provide documentation during resuscitation.

Notify oncoming shift of rhythm, rate, and significant changes, and obtain Charge Nurse approval before discharging a patient from the system.

Maintain continuous monitoring and arrange for coverage when leaving the area; never leave monitors unattended.

Pass the EKG exam (90% or greater) administered by the clinical educator.

Report errors promptly and uphold all workplace accountability standards.

Orient new staff and students, collaborate with nursing staff and hospital employees, and contribute to a supportive work environment.

Attend at least 80% of scheduled staff meetings and 100% of mandatory educational sessions.

Use downtime to assist others or provide additional assistance as requested.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift Schedule

Day Shift: 6:45 am to 7:15 pm

1×12‑hour shift every two weeks

Weekends and holidays required

Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

1 year as a Monitor Technician or related field and successful completion of a Basic EKG course.

Licenses / Certifications:

BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from AHA or ARC required upon hire.

Telemetry experience strongly preferred.

Must read, write, and communicate in English.
