Under the general direction of the Sr. Psychologist or Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I, the Clinical Counselor (CC) applies counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques within the scope of applicable Business and Professions Code(s) and license to improve an incarcerated individual’s mental health. The CC works with the incarcerated population to provide access, outreach, and prevention wellness strategies, including those not in the mental health delivery system. Part-time and full-time staff are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis as applicable to their time base. Salaries reflect ongoing program and contractual changes. The Clinical Counselor implements counseling and preventive wellness strategies, supports reintegration goals, and collaborates with mental health staff to provide care to incarcerated individuals in alignment with program guidelines. Minimum Qualifications
Education : Possession of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling or Psychotherapy, as required by Business and Professional Code 4999.32. Licensure : Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science. Applicants who do not qualify for licensure may be admitted into the examination and may be appointed but must obtain a valid license within four years of appointment; an individual may be employed only to the extent necessary to be eligible for licensure plus one year. This posting notes that the California Model and PLP 2025 may affect compensation; effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 requires a base salary reduction by 3 percent with 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027.
