Overview
Clinical Counselor position at San Quentin State Prison (SQ) with California Correctional Health Care Services (CCHCS). This is a limited term position which may be extended or become permanent. Responsibilities
The Clinical Counselor (CC) applies counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques within the scope of applicable Business and Professions Code(s) and license, for the purpose of improving an incarcerated individual’s mental health and the effectiveness of preventative skills and behaviors developed for wellness. The CC works preventatively with the incarcerated population, including those not in the mental health delivery system, to provide access, outreach, and prevention wellness strategies for incarcerated patients. Under the general direction of the Sr. Psychologist, Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I, and as part of Mental Health Services, the CC supports treatment and prevention programs in the correctional setting. Qualifications
Education: Possession of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling or Psychotherapy that meets the requirements stipulated in Business and Professional Code 4999.32. Licensure: Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor issued by the California Board of Behavioral Science. Applicants who do not qualify for licensure may be admitted into the examination and may be appointed but must secure a valid license within four years of appointment; however, an individual can be employed only to the extent necessary to be eligible for licensure plus one year. Note: A Training and Development (T&D) assignment will not be considered at this time. See the Duty Statement for additional information about the job. Additional Information
