Opportunity CACI is seeking a midlevel Mechanical Marine Engineer to work with a dynamic team of ship Marine, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural engineers and Naval Architects.
You will provide technical and program support on various engineering projects alone and as part of an engineering team primarily in support of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Military Sealift Command (MSC). The experienced Marine Engineer will bring extensive knowledge of ship systems and machinery to assist with projects and provide valuable industrial and operational insights.
You will be responsible for supporting new vessel design at the vessel‑specific level and program level in the areas of safety systems and risk reduction and management for shipboard systems with a focus on mission systems. You will apply previous knowledge of mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and mechanical systems to these activities while maintaining working knowledge and familiarity with customer specifications, manuals, and procedures in areas of safety and risk reduction, and apply this understanding to new vessel design spiral and in‑service vessel lifecycle support.
Responsibilities
Provide systems engineering support for in‑service and new vessel design, and support to shipboard engineering systems.
Work with stakeholders.
Use, maintain, and improve document authoring and drafting practices and tools to develop reports, manuals, and drawings with high efficiency and accuracy.
Lead a team to carry out Out‑year Engineering Requirements for various classes of ships, including T‑AKE.
Design and develop fluid systems using design software such as Pipe FLO and spreadsheet calculations.
Design and develop interfaces between ship systems and new equipment, author and develop design reports to accompany in‑service modifications.
Develop advanced proficiency in 2‑D drafting practices to improve in‑service modification.
Qualifications – Required
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
BSME in Marine Engineering.
Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience working with ship machinery and systems.
Ability to write concise reports and specifications in English with minimal oversight in MS Word using styles, fields, and references.
Proven track record in ship design, modification, or maintenance projects.
Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to work alone on individual projects with minimal supervision and with other engineering disciplines on a team.
Ability to interface with team members, technical leads, and project managers.
Ability to review and apply U.S. Navy and/or U.S. commercial ship design requirements, including DoD acquisition, system safety, and testing processes.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Willingness to travel 10% of the time.
Qualifications – Desired
Active U.S. Coast Guard License 1AE Unlimited Horsepower or Greater.
Proficiency in AutoCAD 2‑D for shipboard and/or shipyard design, operation, or repair experience.
Prior experience working with MSC and/or T Ships.
Engineering and Technical Authority (E&TA) Familiarization training.
Working knowledge of maritime regulations, classification society rules, and industry standards to ensure compliance.
Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop risk reduction strategies for shipboard systems, emphasizing propulsion, power generation, and mission‑critical equipment.
Experience providing technical support for in‑service vessels throughout their lifecycle, leveraging past industrial and operational experience to solve complex engineering challenges.

Pay Range Proposed salary range for this position is $63,300‑$129,700. The final salary depends on factors such as location, contract categories, experience, education, and certifications.
