Position Overview The Millwright will play a critical role in maintaining, repairing, and optimizing our sawmill equipment and mechanical systems. This person ensures production runs safely, efficiently, and smoothly — minimizing downtime and supporting the team’s commitment to quality and safety.

You’ll work closely with our sawyers, yard crew, and management to keep operations moving and equipment performing at peak condition.

Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Repair

• Inspect, maintain, and repair sawmill equipment including saws, conveyors, motors, bearings, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems

• Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform both routine and emergency repairs

• Align, level, and install machinery components with precision tools

Preventive Maintenance

• Create and follow maintenance schedules for critical equipment

• Conduct lubrication, cleaning, and inspection routines to extend equipment life

• Keep detailed maintenance and repair logs

• Assist with the setup, alignment, and calibration of new machinery

• Support modernization and equipment improvement projects

• Recommend process or safety enhancements to improve reliability and efficiency

Safety & Compliance

• Follow and enforce all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE standards

• Identify potential safety hazards and report or correct them immediately

• Participate in regular safety meetings and inspections

• Work closely with operations and management to prioritize repairs and maintenance

• Communicate clearly with team members about downtime, issues, and completed work

• Provide training or mentorship to junior staff as needed

Qualifications Required

• Minimum 3–5 years' experience as a Millwright, Maintenance Technician, or similar role in a sawmill, lumber yard, or industrial environment

• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills with sawmill machinery (conveyors, debarkers, edgers, kilns, etc.)

• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical power transmission

• Proficiency in welding, cutting, fabrication, and precision measurement

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals

• Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs, climb, bend, and work in variable outdoor conditions

Preferred

• Journeyman Millwright certification or equivalent training

• Familiarity with PLC systems or basic electrical troubleshooting

• Experience working in a circular sawmill environment

• Commitment to sustainability and local forestry practices
