Electrician – School of Medicine – Columbia, SC Posting Number: STA00861PO25 (Open until 12/08/2025). Salary Range: $45,133 – $67,699. Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week. Standard schedule 8:30 am – 5:00 pm; flexible schedule required.

Job Summary Under general supervision, maintains and installs electrical equipment and devices. Ensures compliance with U.S.C., SOMC, OSHA, and university safety policies. Demonstrates law‑abiding, ethical business conduct.

Responsibilities

Maintain electrical systems through visual and meter‑aided evaluations, initiating corrections as needed.

Install conduit, boxes, outlets to meet code and operational requirements.

Assist in monitoring safety systems such as fire alarm and sprinkler systems across SOMC buildings.

Support construction and maintenance tasks (moving furniture, building walls, etc.).

Respond to trouble calls for electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of job‑related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Accredited technical school graduation or successful completion of a licensed electrical trade program.

Valid driver’s license.

Optional: Electrical education from an accredited school.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Plan, organize, and prioritize work effectively.

Strong verbal and written communication.

Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.

Work independently with attention to detail.

Reasoning skills; understanding of safety practices relevant to the area.

Adhere to compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.

Essential Functions Yes – 30% maintenance, 25% installation, 15% safety monitoring, 10% general maintenance, 5% other duties. No hazardous weather or security sensitivity.
