Construction & Props Building Specialist
to join our team, helping bring our escape rooms to life with unique, interactive props! This position reports to the Head of Construction & Prop Building in the Projects & Installs Department of Breakout Operating. What You'll Do:
Construct, paint, and install high‑quality props, set pieces, and furniture for themed escape rooms. Incorporate electronic and mechanical elements into builds (e.g., hidden compartments, motorized mechanisms, RFID sensors, tech‑controlled puzzles). Work closely with construction lead, game designers, tech specialists, and project directors to ensure props function seamlessly in gameplay. Produce replacement props on demand for existing Breakout locations. Research and experiment with new materials, techniques, and tech integrations to improve prop durability and interactivity. Travel to locations to install and ensure functionality of props, set pieces, and furniture. Essential Qualifications:
Experience in Carpentry & Woodworking
– Ability to cut, assemble, and finish wood‑based props and structures. Knowledge of Scenic or Themed Fabrication
– Experience in set design, theater production, or theme park construction is a plus. Creative Problem‑Solving
– Ability to design functional, durable props that enhance gameplay. Attention to Detail & Craftsmanship
– High‑quality finishes, precise cuts, and well‑constructed builds. Ability to Work with Different Materials
– Including wood, foam, acrylic, and PVC, plus painting and finishing techniques. Collaboration & Communication
– Work effectively with designers, engineers, and team members. Ability to Lift & Assemble Large Structures
– Comfortable using power tools and handling physical builds. Qualifications:
Experience with Theatrical Effects
– Mechanisms like pulley systems, hidden doors, and automated features. Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Concepts
– Helpful for designing movable or interactive elements. Familiarity with Puzzle Mechanics & Game Flow
– Understanding how props fit into an immersive escape room experience. CNC Machining
– Certification or experience using CNC routers for custom‑built components. CAD Design Skills
