Overview
Comtech is seeking a skilled
Level 2/3 Support Engineer (Network & Security)
to provide advanced systems and network administration for the City of Adelanto's infrastructure under the
Managed IT Services Information Technology Consultant Support
contract. This engineer will handle escalated support issues, maintain core network and server environments, and ensure compliance with the City’s cybersecurity and performance standards. The position requires strong technical depth in firewall configuration, virtualization management, and network security monitoring to ensure availability, performance, and protection of critical municipal systems. Key Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure Administration:
Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot routers, firewalls, and switches (Cisco, Palo Alto, or equivalent). Maintain VLANs, QoS policies, routing protocols, and VPN configurations. System Administration:
Manage and maintain Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policies. Ensure stable and secure server operations, including backups and patch management. Security Operations:
Administer and tune firewall and intrusion prevention systems; monitor network traffic for anomalies; manage SSL VPN, MFA, and endpoint protection systems. Virtualization & Cloud Platforms:
Support VMware vSphere/ESXi or Hyper-V environments, including provisioning, snapshots, replication, and performance tuning. Assist in managing hybrid workloads across Azure and on-premises systems. Incident Management:
Respond to escalated technical incidents and service tickets requiring advanced diagnostic or configuration skills. Support the vCIO and Project Manager in root-cause analysis and remediation. Disaster Recovery & Continuity:
Maintain and test backup/recovery processes using tools like Veeam or equivalent; assist in implementing high availability and clustering strategies. Documentation & Reporting:
Create and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, and system inventories. Provide input for monthly SLA and security performance reports. Collaboration:
Work closely with the Onsite Support Lead, Project/Account Manager, and vCIO to align daily operations with strategic objectives and IT governance standards. Mandatory Qualifications & Experience – Level 2/3 Support Engineer (Network & Security)
M1. Experience:
Minimum of
4 years in systems and network engineering , preferably supporting enterprise or municipal clients. M2. Certifications:
Cisco CCNP (or equivalent enterprise networking certification) and Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (or Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate); VMware Certified Professional (VCP). M3. Technical Proficiency:
Proven expertise in firewall administration (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, or Fortinet), routing/switching, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper-V). M4. Security Knowledge:
Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, CIS Controls) and hands-on experience with network security monitoring, log analysis, and incident response. M5. Communication:
Ability to clearly document system configurations, prepare root-cause reports, and collaborate effectively across multi-disciplinary teams. M6. Availability:
Must be available for after-hours or weekend maintenance and emergency network incidents as needed. Preferred Qualifications
D1. Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field. D2. Cloud Networking:
Experience with cloud networking (Azure Virtual Networks, ExpressRoute, or SD-WAN). D3. Monitoring Tools:
Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, or Nagios). D4. Compliance:
Exposure to CJIS, HIPAA, or FedRAMP. D5. Skills:
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills with a proactive problem-solving approach.
