Technician - HVAC
Old Dominion Mechanical, LLC is seeking a skilled and motivated HVAC Service Technician to join our commercial service team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of commercial HVAC systems. This role requires strong technical knowledge, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to work independently in the field.
Primary Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC systems including RTUs, split systems, heat pumps, air handlers, boilers, and control systems
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure peak efficiency and performance
Test electrical circuits and components for continuity, voltage, and safety using test instruments
Interpret and work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications
Recharge refrigerant systems and repair refrigerant leaks in compliance with EPA standards
Calibrate and adjust thermostats, actuators, and control systems
Document all service work, parts used, and findings using company software or forms
Communicate clearly with clients and internal teams about service issues, recommendations, and timelines
Adhere to all company safety protocols and OSHA standards while working on job sites
Additional Responsibilities
Maintain service vehicle, tools, and inventory
Participate in on‑call rotation for emergency service calls
Assist in training of junior technicians and apprentices
Recommend system upgrades or replacements to clients when necessary
Required Certifications
EPA Section 608 Certification (Required)
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification (Required or within 30 days of hire)
Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record
State HVAC Technician License (if required by local jurisdiction)
Required Training
HVAC troubleshooting and diagnostics
Electrical safety and lockout/tagout procedures
Refrigerant handling and recovery procedures
Required Work Experience Commercial HVAC / Mechanical Service; Minimum 3–5 years of commercial HVAC service experience.
Required Knowledge
Commercial HVAC systems and controls
Electrical and refrigerant systems
Local mechanical codes and EPA guidelines
Preventive maintenance procedures
Required Skills
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving ability
Proficiency in using meters, gauges, and hand tools
Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics
Comfortable working on rooftop units and in confined spaces
Computer literacy for work order software and reporting
Required Physical Abilities
Ability to lift 50+ lbs
Work on rooftops, ladders, and in tight spaces
Bending, kneeling, standing, and climbing for extended periods
Other
Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
Available for on‑call rotation and occasional after‑hours work
