Base pay range: $46,990.52/yr - $60,811.26/yr

The Work You Will Do Automotive Equipment Mechanic II / District Five / District Maintenance / Brevard Maintenance. This position will support the Agency’s mission by performing skilled work as an automotive equipment mechanic, troubleshooting, diagnosing, Repairing, overhauling, performing routine maintenance on gasoline or diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and other parts and major components in automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment and other related equipment. Field test vehicles and equipment. Submit requests for parts and supplies, comply with all waste generation, respond to emergency road service calls and provide cleanup, minor welding, paint and body repairs, instructs / assists other mechanics.
Your Responsibilities
Performs skilled work in the diagnosis, repair, overhaul and replacement of gasoline or diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, electrical systems, hydraulic systems and other parts and major components in automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, and other related equipment. Field test vehicles and equipment. Repairs, changes, and balances tires on automotive and heavy equipment. Supervises Department of Corrections inmates crew performing maintenance activities.
Performs preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is maintained and in proper working order. Performs periodic maintenance, repair, and preparation of seasonal equipment.
Complies with waste generation, storage, and disposal laws, rules, and policies; assists in maintaining proper documentation of waste generation and disposal activities. Submits requests for parts and supplies. Tracks time charged, completes shop work orders, and purchases parts and shop supplies as needed; operates PCs for processing tickets and work orders.
Responds to emergency road service calls and performs minor repairs; conducts cleanup and returns tools to proper location. Performs minor welding, paint and body repairs as needed. Instructs other mechanics or helpers in repair work.
Qualifications
Minimum: High School Diploma or GED and two years of mechanic experience in passenger vehicle and heavy equipment repair and maintenance; or three years experience. Valid Class E driver’s license and obtain Class B CDL instructional permit within 60 days; obtain Class B CDL with air brakes within 10 months.
Requirements: Valid Class E driver license with acceptable driving record; ability to obtain CDL Class B with air brakes; ability to meet Department driving record policy; pre-employment drug screening; FMCSA Clearinghouse registration; CDL training costs covered by Department subject to funding; 3 attempts allowed to pass licensing; on-call for emergencies.
