Brief Position Overview:
Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non‑tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Applications are accepted on a continual basis and will be maintained in the pool for two years. After two years, candidates need to re‑submit materials for continued consideration.
Appointments are on a part‑time basis and vary in duration (a couple weeks, a semester, or an academic year), depending on the specific needs of the department/program. Salary is dependent on the number of courses taught and duration. We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching on‑campus or online courses.
Advising, evaluating, and assisting students.
Curriculum and/or course development.
Available Courses:
The Department seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor or Instructor qualified to teach one or more of the following courses in Psychology, depending on available funding: Research Design and Analysis I, Research Design and Analysis II, Abnormal Psychology, Psychology of Gender, Social Psychology, Psychology of Personality, Judgment and Decision Making, Consciousness, History and Systems, Contemporary Issues in Human Sexuality, Psychology of Learning, Behavior Modification, Psychology of Prejudice, Developmental Psychology, Health Psychology, and Senior Thesis/Capstone.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills:
MA/MS/ABD in Psychology or closely allied field.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills:
PhD in Psychology.
College‑level teaching experience in a face‑to‑face lecture format.
Academic background commensurate with teaching one or more of the courses listed above.
Successful Candidate Will:
Possess effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals.
Have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.
Have dedication to supporting and enhancing Montana State University’s initiative for diversity, equity and inclusiveness.
Union Information:
The position may be a Union position. Any position that is .5 FTE or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU). These positions may choose to pay membership dues. Positions less than .5 FTE are not represented by the Union and are not required to pay dues.
